Two years ago I took a break from Project Restomod.  Changes in work, changes in life, changes in priorities.  For several reasons I put the car on the back burner.  But I haven't been sitting idle in the automotive realm.  I've been helping friends with their projects from time to time, I suppose just enough to keep me from wanting to work on my own projects. hah!

This past summer I helped a friend with a 408W Mustang GT and an AEM engine management system.  We spent quite a bit of time tuning it and ended up converting it to E85.  Several trips to the track with the car running mid to high 10s in the 1/4 mile and he got bored with it and decided to change directions.  Fun stuff planned for that car that I might provide some updates here at some point.


After working on enough other people's things, it seems I finally got enough of the bug back in me to start working on my own stuff again.  This week I wandered out into the garage and started looking at the Restomod Fairmont.  If you remember, I used a stock Ford wiring harness with an AEM Univeral Race EMS.  AEM sells a custom harness for use with that box, but for some reason I decided to try to make the stock harness work.  After sorting through the stock harness after working with the AEM Race harness, I started thinking I made a big mistake by trying to use the factory harness.  So, I pulled the harness out.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.  The AEM Race harness is out of my budget right now, so I'll probably end up cutting apart the stock harness and making it the way I want it to be.  There are so many unnecessary components in there and a lot of waste.  I had some nagging electrical problems that I believe was partially because I used a harness with a EMS it wasn't intended for, but also a self-inflicted issue when I wired in a transmission controller and grounded it incorrectly.  That's what happens when there's no "manual" to go to for your specific application, you just gotta live and learn.

At any rate, I'm enjoying getting back into wrenching again.  A few cool projects I'll be working with friends this year.  The red Mustang GT is getting a turbo small block Ford with an AEM EMS.  Eric keeps talking like he's going to get the red Mustang coupe with the TT302 shoved back in a heated stall so he can tear the motor apart and figure out what went wrong when it lost oil pressure a couple summers ago.

I got a little nostalgic and put together a photo slide show of project TT460 covering the car from concept to its last drag strip passes before I dismantled it and sold the parts.  The project was started around 1996 as an idea to build an ultimate sleeper, I think I finally parted everything out and sold it around 2006.

I've posted in the description in the videos of Matt's Swartzlander's truck that it is receiving somewhat of a makeover.  I don't have anything in terms of what the truck is going to look like when it's complete, but I do have a shot of the motor after it came back from the engine builder.

 Specs:

  • Displacement now 6.6L
  • Another "prototype" Eaton TVS R1900 blower, this time with a front-inlet
  • Magnuson lower intake/custom upper intake designed by Matt to accommodate new blower and intercooler core
  • Initial Dyno results: 730hp/800+ lb/ft of torque@ 8.5lbs of boost (using stock exhaust manifolds)
